More than half of our medical care in the US may not be “based on or supported by adequate evidence,” reports the US National Academy of Medicine.

There are doctors practicing the evidence-based medicine we’re told we are getting, but they are few and far between. We don’t want to believe that, because it means we can’t trust our doctors to help us instead of harming or killing us.

But that’s exactly where we are.

So I’ve become a medical detective.

I specialize in applied science—using scientific evidence to solve real-world problems. I critically evaluate and synthesize research across disciplines and then translate it into everyday language, empowering regular people to make scientifically informed decisions for their best possible health and well-being.

For nearly 25 years, I wrote an award-winning science based syndicated column via Creators, solving love, dating, friendship, sex, and relationship problems. I began writing evolutionary science- and behavioral science-driven books.

And then I unexpectedly dove into medicine.

It started with exposing how little science drives our medical care in my new book GOING MENOPOSTAL: What you (and your doctor) need to know about the real science of menopause and perimenopause.

In this newsletter, I use my deep dives into research across disciplines—fact-checked against physiology and pharmacokinetics (how drugs interact in the body)—to continue exposing the lack of evidence behind much of our medical care…and tell you what the evidence actually says.

Medicine won’t become evidence-driven overnight. We, the patients, need to understand the science so we can bring it to our doctors and ask for the evidence-driven care most are often unable to provide.

That is a major mission of this newsletter—in addition to continuing the work in my syndicated column and four previous books: the science-based advice on how to be at our best—personally, professionally, and in love, friendships, and relationships.

Medicine and Health Covered Here

•I identify the everyday unwitting malpractice of medicine by doctors in area after area of our care.

•I lay out what the science actually says, note vital tests that doctors may not know to give, and explain how to get the evidence-based care we should be.

•I cover compelling new findings in research as well as studies in the news that are scientifically and physiologically ludicrous.

•I look at people’s labs, evaluate their doctor’s diagnosis and treatment advice, and then figure out what’s really going on—and what’s scientifically warranted.

•I also debunk widely-held medical, nutritional, and Big Vitamin-serving myths—like “The Calcium Myth” that I take on in GOING MENOPOSTAL: What you (and your doctor) need to know about the real science of menopause and perimenopause.

Beyond Medicine: Love, Sex, Friendships, Healthy Conflict, and How To Be The Best You

This newsletter will also include the classic applied science advice I’ve given for decades on love, relationships, friendships, and personal growth, with a strong foundation of evolutionary science and rigorous reasoning.

•Action-based change

•Positive use of anger

• Overcoming dread

•Initiating and maintaining habits

•Healthy conflict as a tool for intimacy and growth

•How to fool your brain into boosting your energy

•Failure as a power tool for achievement

My goal: Giving you a diving board to cannonball off into living your most productive, happy, loving, meaningful (and even fabulous!) best life.
